Showtime’s series, Shameless, is on its second season and the Gallagher Family have absolutely no limits this season. Shameless is a show about a down and out family of six kids growing up on the west side of Chicago with an alcoholic bum of a father whose main concern is always himself. William H. Macy plays the outrageous Frank Gallagher and is co-starred along stars Emmy Rossum, his eldest daughter and Joan Cusack, his obsessive-compulsive house hobbit girlfriend. Emmy Rossum plays the eldest daughter, Fiona, who is the glue that holds the crazy functioning kids together with a little help from her younger brothers, Lip, an extremely intelligent drug peddler and Ian, a closet homo-sexual military man. Then there are the three youngest Gallagher’s. Debbie, who is twelve but acts like she is a thirty year old mother, Carl, a pyro maniac fifth grader and Liam, who is the only baby and African-American member of the Gallagher gang. Spoiler: he is Frank’s kid. If you think it already sounds ridiculous well this isn’t half of it. Unfortunately it would take me about a week to fill you completely in but I will do the best I can.

Fiona’s ex-boyfriend, Steve, returns to Chicago and finds out he is not only married to a Portuguese drug lord’s daughter but that his real name is Jimmy and attends medical school in Michigan. As Steve confesses to Fiona that he still loves her she cannot forgive him and has a thing about sleeping with married men. Ian and Lip have not been speaking to one another since Lip got a recommendation to West Point that Lip had intended on getting for Ian with connections at a local tech college. Out of anger, Ian stabs at Lip with pointing out that his old friends with benefits girlfriend, who he is in love with is, is pregnant with possibly his kid or even his dad’s and is marrying a complete tool named, Jody. Debs and Carl are being spoiled by their estranged convict grandmother who was recently early from jail. She has made Frank her ultimate slave by having him taking care of her from scrubbing her in the bath to trimming her nose hairs. As awful as Frank is, his mother is very cruel and heartless towards her son. This is the first time we have ever met any of Frank’s family and a look at his upbringing.

This isn’t even a full summary of what’s been going on this season but I promise it is worth catching up on. I only watch a few shows regularly because I lose interest but when it comes to Shameless there has yet to be a dull moment. There are so many intertwining story lines and random ones that come and go but it all somehow kind of realistically work out. With the insane sex scenes, outrageous additional characters such as Kevin and Veronica a married inter-racial couple who become foster parents to a fourteen year old religious cult sister wife with an infant son and the nymphomaniac Karen who is the daughter of Shelia, played by Joan Cusack, who has the fear of leaving her house and naively allows Frank to live with her.

Shameless airs every Sunday night at 9:00 P.M on Showtime. Season one is currently available on Showtime On Demand along with all the episodes from this season. I’m not kidding this show is a must see it will keep you tuning in every week!
