“MDNA” by Madonna

Released: March 26 by Live Nation Worldwide & Interscope Records

Stars out of five: Three

Why: Madonna is known for her singles, videos, live performances and all-around envelope-pushing awesomeness that’s made her an icon. All of this combined is why she’s ranked one of the best-selling female artists ever, not because every album itself is utterly amazing. “MDNA” is okay. It has a couple awesome singles, some tracks I could take or leave and some stinkers, but at the end of the day, it’s Madonna, who herself is undeniably much more than “okay.”

Sounds like: ‘80s pop with modern dub-step mixes and big names like Nicki Minaj and M.I.A backing her up. Madonna has always been a master of making new music that sounds enough like her old-school hits to keep older fans in the loop, (Made even easier for her to achieve on “MDNA” with the current ‘80s pop craze, I’m sure) but modern enough to attract young people and hit-list listeners.

Favorite lyrics: “Like a bitch out of water/ Like a bat out of hell/ Like a fish out of water/ I’m scared, can’t you tell?” and “Hold me like your money/ Tell me that you love me.”

Favorite Tracks: Track 1. “Girl Gone Wild” and Track 5. “Give Me All Your Luvin’” (feat. Nicki Minaj & M.I.A)

Listen to this album: While you and your best girl friends have a junior-high style slumber party. Dance around in your polka-dotted pajamas during “Girl Gone Wild.” Paint each other’s nails and sing along with the inspirational girly track “Turn up the Radio.” Listen to “Masterpiece” during a friend’s cry fest about a recent break up. Talk shit about your friend’s ex’s new trollop girlfriend to “Some Girls.” “MDNA” provides all the mood setting tracks you need for a slumber party, so put on some fuzzy slippers and pass the popcorn.
