Relationships don’t work out. Fortunately a lot of musicians know that. Which is why we can thank them for these sad tracks to get us through our single days.

1 Ships in the Night by Matt Kearney: This song is truly a beautiful passing romance song. Mat Kearney will sing you to a single sleep while reminding you that people are just ships in the night.

"Like ships in the night/You keep passing me by/We're just wasting time/Trying to prove who's right."

2 The Investigation by Sugarcult: One of my favorite edgy rock bands is perfect for this sad occasion of a break up. The lyrics are soulful and about losing someone that you could do anything for, but didn’t get the chance.

"This could be perfect if I wasn't worthless."

3 Colorblind by Counting Crows: And what would be a Top Five without a nineties song? The Counting Crows get really emotional with this single as they tell you to be ready for change. And change is exactly what a person needs after a break up.

"Stutter shook and uptight/Pull me out from inside/I am ready/I am fine."

4 We Found Love by Boyce Avenue: Before you get excited, this is a cover of Rhianna’s new hit single. However, this is the acoustic version that reminds you how much it sucks to fall in love in a hopeless place.

"It's the way I'm feeling I just can't deny/But I've gotta let it go."

5 ]Coffee and Cigarettes by Augustana: This is vintage Augustana, but one of their best songs. The cool rhythm of this song will have you forgetting your lost love in no time.

"So put me on a plane, and fly me to anywhere...with you."
