Ask Moses

Photo Dear Kent State, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed giving you advice for the past two years, and it saddens me to say that this will be my last “Ask Moses” column for the Daily Kent Stater. With that in mind, I really wanted to give some badass advice this week. Rather than answering a reader’s question, I decided to preach from my heart. I’ve evolved quite a bit since my lanyard days, and I’ve learned a thing or two the hard way. These seemingly random dos and don’ts are things that I wish I could have told myself three and a half years ago (though I probably would have rolled my eyes at some know-it-all columnist). I beg you, don’t roll your eyes yet! Just hear me out. Read more...

Top 5 Most Expensive Liquors in the World

5 Wray and Nephew Rum - $54,000

If you have enough money to afford this bottle of rum you might not want to water it down by making a Mai Tai, Daiquiri or a Rum and Coke. The company, who are now the makers of Captain Morgan, had to abandon their traditional method of making rum to keep up with the “Mai-Tai Craze” of the 1930’s. Un-like some of the more expensive liquors on this list, it is unknown where or how many there are left in existence. This rum might make Captain Jack Sparrow blow a load in his pirate trousers if he could ever get his hands on it.

4 Nun’s Island, Galway Distillery, 25-Year-Old Pure Pot Still Whisky - $195,000

After reading about this Irish single malt scotch whiskey I had to hit myself on the head with a shillelagh to stop myself from selling everything I own to afford this bottle of Irish. If I did, my efforts would be in vain. There are no more unopened bottles of this smooth whiskey. However, if you want to, it wouldn’t hurt to bring your friend “Rain man” with you. You can purchase a dram of this whiskey for $3,300 at the Old Homestead Steakhouse in the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City. I wouldn’t bet on getting a seat there. One of the owners of the restaurant, Greg Sherry, claims that “We haven’t had an empty seat in quite a few years.”

3 Diva Premium Vodka - $3,800 – $1.6 Million

This vodka, made in Jolly Old England, is smooth enough to make Don Draper look like a hobo. The vodka is first triple distilled through Nordic birch charcoal. It is then filtered again through the tube of precious stones inside the bottle as you pour. The best part about this bottle of vodka is the fact that you can choose how insane you want be by choosing which stones you put in the center tube. Any way you look at it, this bottle of Vodka is the closest you’ll ever get to drinking diamonds.

2 La Ley del Diamante (the Diamond Sterling) Tequila - $1.5 Million

Usually when there’s tequila involved people take their clothes off, but if you try to buy this bottle of Mexican Tequila the bank will probably just take everything you own. Like most bottles on this list it is mostly the bottle that makes it expensive. The hand-blown glass alone had its own work force of 32 artisan glassblowers. After the bottle was first dipped in pure platinum and then sterling silver, the makers of this bottle sprinkled the bottle with 6,000 brilliant-cut diamonds. Like the luxurious bottle the liquor lives in, the tequila wasn’t cheaply made. The tequila was made from 100 percent agave (aka Cactus fruit) and aged for approximately 9 years. Surprisingly, this is not the most expensive bottle of liquor, but still expensive enough to make you want to steal one and run for the border.

1 Henri IV Dudognon Heritage Cognac Grande Champagne - $1.9 Million

This bottle is any true alcoholic’s wet dream. Made by the same company as “The Diamond Sterling,” this bottled created for millionaires in Dubai. Originally the company made “The Diamond Sterling” to be the most expensive bottle in the World. However, all the buyers have rejected his offer by saying “tequila is not a luxury spirit.” Watch this video and found out more.
