Most people don’t pick who they fall in love with; it just happens. Best friends spend so much time with one another that it is very common one can fall in love with the other. What if the feeling is not neutral? How do you go about the situation? Here are a few tips that could help answer your questions:

Understand the risk: telling your best friend how you feel about him/her could ruin the friendship. Make sure you are 100 percent about your feelings before saying them out loud.

Honesty: Friendship is based on honesty. Once you decide to go forth and tell your best friend how you truly feel, make sure you sit down and discuss the risks together. If the other is not feeling the same way honor their decision and work on just being friends. Don’t stop talking. It will only make things worse.

Time will tell: your news may catch your bff off guard. Allow him or her time to thing about their feelings and get their thoughts together. Asking them to rush into a decision could turn them against you.

Stay best friends: Whether you become a couple or not, it is important to remain best friends. There is a reason you two are so close. Don’t let a few emotions get in the way of that. If you do decide to take the relationship to the next level, it is important to remain best friends. Share the things you always have.

Take it slow: Don’t dive right into the romance. Take time to adjust to the new relationship and make sure this is the path you want to take. It is also important to avoid sexual involvement, (at first). Like any other relationship it can complicate matters
