There are many freedoms that we have in college that we didn’t have in years past. We don’t have curfews, detentions or big yellow school buses picking us up in the morning. College is as awesome as well as the freedoms it provides.
Another freedom that has changed in college is that your relationships are now legal. Seriously, if you dated someone younger than you before college, you could have been facing lawsuits. Now, you can be with someone who is seven plus years younger and nobody cares.
That being said, you can’t just go around throwing your cat at everyone. This includes professors.
It’s normal to want something you know you can’t have, but that could turn into something more. If you find yourself involved with a professor to the brink of a relationship, it’s time to take a good long look at your situation.
Odds are, you haven’t told anyone that you are doing the “extra credit” with the prof after class. Keep it that way. The benefit of being in college is that classes go in semesters. If you are not in this professor’s class after the semester ends, you are in the clear to kiss and tell.
If you skipped the whole secrecy step, things are going to be rough for you. People can and will question your motives. Your teacher-boyfriend could be facing some serious issues wit the university. Therefore, before you get anymore involved, check out the university policy about student and teacher regulations. Each school is different. Thankfully at Kent State, student legal service is free so that might be a good way to get answers.
The best bet here is to be professional. This isn’t a movie, this is your heart and possibly your future. Don’t let either of those things get tampered with.
