As a guy, you may not want to admit it, but at some point we have all stared deep into our closet and said, “Damn, what am I going to wear”. Now this can happen for different reasons, it could be that you have an important meeting coming up with a professor or potential internship boss. Or more likely than not, You met a smokin’ hot girl in your class and you are trying to figure out what is the look that is going to snag you a date for this Friday night. As a guy that has been there, I can tell you a few things. Every boss, coworker, and girl are completely different and no matter what situation you are going into there is no set of rules that is universal for helping you fit a certain look they may be interested in. However, going into a situation with the right look for you will undoubtedly boost your confidence, and also give them a positive first impression knowing that you care about your look.

Yes ladies, guys will put thought into what we where on our way to see you on occasion.

First off will be a quick, but possibly the most important tip - hygiene. You can have the best looking clothes in the world but if you look like you haven’t showered in a week, it is just not going to go well for you. A good confident look starts with a confident attitude. Going into a new situation with fresh breath, combed or gelled hair, and the right amount of cologne is like getting an alley oop from D.Wade. You’re in the right position. Now it’s time to slam it home. Also, no matter what the guys in the in the locker room or backstage at your shows tell you, there is nothing wrong with a guy owning a pair of eyebrow trimmers, fingernail clippers, cologne, and mints. They are little tiny pieces to the puzzle but they go a long, long way.

Second, name brands are not as important as a lot of people make them out to be. It is true that you can spend hundreds of dollars on pair of sneakers, or close to that amount on a hoodie, but really all your doing is paying for the name. The part that matters, which is the look, is just as achievable without breaking your already strapped college bank. The most important element when it comes to clothes is that 1.) They are clean and 2.) You feel comfortable in them.

If you wonder what items to definitely stay away from; mesh shorts, high school sport team sweat pants, shirts that are overly tight, and shirts that are overly baggy all make the list. Also as much as you love your high school letterman’s jacket, by February of any year in college it is time to let it go. Also don’t be afraid to pick up a magazine or two, styling your own look after some looks that think look cool is totally OK.

Again, there is set number of rules that are universal for fashion. However, if you follow some of these quick tips you will be well on your way to achieving a look that makes get you a look.
